David N. ”Dave” Lay, 60, of Blue Springs, MO, passed away Monday, October 17, 2016, surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with lung cancer.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at First Bible Baptist Church in Blue Springs followed by a Celebration of Life at 7 p.m., Thursday at the church. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 21, 2016 at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville.

Dave was born February 20th, 1956, the son of Billie (Walker) and Richard Lay. He grew up in Kansas City, MO and graduated from Winnetonka High School in 1974. He joined the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War until 1979. He received his Bachelors of Journalism in from UMKC in Kansas City, MO. He worked at Honeywell for 38 years as an Operating Engineer.

Dave loved being a parent to his 5 daughters and 1 son and was a father figure to their many friends. He was a gifted musician that loved to play guitar and sing. He was also very active in his church where he sang in the choir and acted. Dave was very proud of his 24 years of sobriety and counseled many people on their journey over the years.

Dave was preceded in death by his mother, Billie Walker, younger sister Susan Lay, and younger brother Richard Lay. He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Deborah Lay, of the home. Survivors include his six children, Jennifer Damery (Ryan) of St. Peters, MO, Mark Lay (Michele) of Carriere, MS, Jessica Vincent (Patrick) of Acworth, GA, Kristy Noland (Joe) of Blue Springs, MO, Shawna Lay of Kansas City, MO, and Sarah Davenport of Blue Springs, MO. Also surviving are his father, Richard of Clinton, MO; sister Deborah Van Hoecke of Clinton, MO; grandchildren Jocelyn and Alex Noland, Brayden and Ethan Roadcap, and Lexie Davenport; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a large circle of friends.
